Under the supervision of the Head Brewer, the Operator #1 is responsible for brewing, filtering & operating the packaging lines (kegging, canning and bottling). The Operator #1 has ownership of the quality and profile of final product. This part-time position requires a commitment of every Monday & Tuesday from 9am-5pm with the occasional overtime and additional day when required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible to produce bitter wort from raw materials according to prescribe recipes.
Required to accurately measure appropriate raw materials according to prescribe recipes.
Perform the transfer of bitter wort into fermentation tanks ensuring the correct temperature and level of aeration are correct.
Accurately transfer the correct quantity of yeast into the fermentation tanks.
Responsible for reviewing weekly production schedule & completing necessary tasks for the days ahead
Responsible to check the progress of fermentation and take appropriate action if required.
Responsible to clean and sanitize the brewing equipment according to company SOPs.
Perform inspections of brewing equipment and report any malfunctions/issues that may affect production in a timely manner to the Head Brewer.
Accountable for accurate completion of brewing and fermentation reports.
Responsible to monitor the spent grain and ensure the timely pick-up by disposal company.
Organize and manage the inventory of bulk malt, specialty malts, and hops. Responsible to report any shortages of inventory and/or be proactive in reporting low quantities of required materials.
Responsible for the smooth operation of filtration equipment (DE filter, Depth Filter, Absolute Membrane Filter), according to company SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
Responsible for the cleaning and sanitation of all filtration equipment according to company SOPs.
Perform accurate measurement and blending as per prescribed recipes to ensure product specs are met.
Ensure filtered products meet quality control specs and are released to packaging on time based on the daily production plan.
Responsible and accountable to accurately complete filtration, cleaning and blending reports.
Identify and report any malfunctions of equipment that could potentially affect production of products.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Lift and move heavy objects (up to 60 lbs).
Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner. Follow all safety procedures and wear all required PPE, as per company and Worksafe BC regulations
Adhere to all company policies and code of conduct.
Perform other duties as required.
Previous brewing experience is an asset.
High level of attention to detail with the ability to accurately follow instructions in written form.
Good communication skills and the ability to work alone and on a team.
Physically able to stand, reach, bend for long periods of time.
Work within an environment that is fast paced, has high noise levels, frequent interruptions, cold hot and humid conditions, and wet floors.
Flexible and able to work day shifts with occasional overtime
Personal protective equipment is a requirement, must supply own waterproof steel-toed footwear.
Due to the nature of our business, it is a legal requirement that all employees are at least 19 years of age.
