As the 5th Brewmaster in 33 years at Swans, your area of responsibility in simple terms is everything.  This covers all aspects of running a brewery, including production, selected administrative tasks, strategy development, maintenance, relationship development, and growth.  This is presently a solo position, so you must be able to work and manage your own time independently and work alone.  Your primary customer is the on-site pub, who relies on the maintenance of 20 draught lines of beer served from tank, plus an additional 4 nitro lines served from kegs, all Swans beers.  Yours will be one of 5 business units on this site.

You are a creative person that enjoys developing new beers, and solving inevitable problems that arise from a 33 year old facility and 100+ year old building.  You enjoy communicating information of the beers you create to the staff of the pub who rely on your information to provide a solid guest experience.  You are willing to enter the spotlight as necessary when the brewery is showcased in various media forms, as well as register, attend and pour beer at various events.  You understand quality assurance principles of cleaning and production, and have an eye for continuous improvement.  You are experienced with the tasks associated with running the production side of a brewery, this is critical, and an absolute requirement to have.  You are a physical person that is able to crouch, bend, lift, dig, carry, drag, haul, drive, and handle heavy objects (including full 50L kegs), hoses, and grain.  You will be working in and managing a brewer’s brewery, no buttons and screens here.

Selected Duties & Responsibilities

–          All Day-to-Day Operations of Brewery, including but not limited to

o   Brew Scheduling

o   Brewing

o   Transfers & Tank Cleaning

o   Entering confined spaces

o   Draught Line, Keg, and Brewery Cleaning including Friends’ beers and products served in the pub

o   Beer tapping

o   Beer packaging (cans, bottles and kegs) & Labelling

o   Inventory Control

o   Ingredient Sourcing and Ordering

o   Recipe Development & Existing Product Maintenance

o   Delivering beer

o   Meeting with other Managers on a weekly basis

o   Staff Pre-shifting

o   Meeting with other managers

–          Administrative Tasks

o   Inventory Reporting

o   Recording Beer Orders

o   Email Responding

o   Registration of New Beers

o   Liaise with Government Agents

o   Maintain various spreadsheets & liaise with Accounting

o   Working with other Swans business units

–          Other Projects as necessary

Requirements

–          Hand-On Brewery Experience 3+ years

–          Able to work independently & Manage own time

–          Create new beers

–          Physically fit

–          Valid Driver’s License & Clean Driving Record

–          Other Jobs as necessary on the property

Would be Nicers & Helpful

–          Business experience

–          Homebrewing experience
