About the Position

Rusted Rake Brewing is a new, family-run farm-based brewery in the beautiful coastal town of Nanoose Bay, Vancouver Island. Our brewery and soon-to-open tasting lounge are located on an 18-acre farm just 10 minutes from the city of Nanaimo and only a short ferry ride away from Vancouver.

We are looking for a HEAD BREWER to join our team to help grow and develop the Rusted Rake Brewing brand. As head brewer, you will be working with our brewing consultant and management team with responsibility for ensuring that duties related to brewing, cellaring, packaging, and cleaning are being fulfilled. Following standard operating procedures, you will be accountable for maintaining detailed brewing and packaging records and will help develop seasonal beer recipes.

In addition to brewing, there will be opportunities to help seed and harvest the grains on our farm that are used in our beer production, as well as cover bartending shifts in the tasting lounge. Truly a full circle brewery experience!

From growing and harvesting to producing our current selection of beers and bringing new styles of beer to market, your energy and love of craft beer will help us successfully launch BC’s newest farm brewery. What We Need Help With

  • Accurately follow brewing recipes to completion on 10HL brewhouse,
  • Cleaning duties include, but are not limited to, bright and fermentation tanks, brewhouse, hoses,

    floors, etc.,

  • Monitoring inventory and brewing supplies,
  • Checking gravities, fermentation, and carbonation levels,
  • Helping with test batches and recipe formulation,
  • Completing tasks in a timely manner and in accordance with company SOP’s,
  • Keeping accurate brewing and packaging records,
  • Supporting packaging operations including kegging, packaging, and canning,
  • Adhering to brewery safety protocols,
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work area,
  • Cover some bartending shifts in the tasting lounge,
  • Helping with seeding and harvesting grains.

  • Willingness to be part of a team and do what is required to meet production demands,
  • Experience forecasting, scheduling, and managing beer production from brewhouse to packing,
  • Knowledge of CIP and brewery sanitation procedures,
  • Willingness to work a variety of shifts including weekends, evenings and stat holidays when

    necessary,

  • Desire to learn about and participate in seeding and harvesting process,
  • Follows directions well with close attention to details and cleanliness.

    Technical Skills & Qualifications

  • 19+ years of age,
  • Post-secondary education including craft brew-related education and/or 1-2 years of brewing

    experience,

  • Valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada,
  • Physically able to work on your feet for long hours and be able to safely lift and/or maneuver

    165lbs.
